There are so many favorite holiday traditions to choose from; the holiday singing, making Christmas cookies and holiday pies, decorating. With the Thanksgiving holiday fast approaching, I’ve chosen to share with you my favorite Thanksgiving foods. Every year we all get together as families do, and even when it is just my husband, my kids and I, we all join in to make homemade applesauce. It never lasts through Thanksgiving, gets all gobbled up before the pies! I thought I would share our recipe with you, though it is usually just thrown together.
Homemade Thanksgiving Applesauce
This makes roughly 4-6 servings.
• 4 lbs of peeled, cored and chopped apples (I always mix different kinds of apples for better flavor, tart and sweet)
• sugar (amount to be determined by taste)
• ground cinnamon

After you have all the apples chopped up, place them in a big pot. The smaller the apple pieces the smoother the sauce and quicker the process. Put a little water (less then 1/4 cup) in the bottom to keep it from burning. Put a lid on and heat to a simmer. This process will take some time, so make sure you are close to watch. If you want chunky sauce, be sure to remove it from the heat. If you want a smoother sauce allow it to keep cooking longer.

When you are about two minutes from turning the heat off, add sugar and cinnamon to taste. This is so yummy and a favorite of the kid’s. They love to see it simmering down from apples to sauce. It tastes great with those left-over turkey sandwiches.
